Avec un quotidien devenu ultra connecté, la myopie, trouble de la réfraction caractérisé par une vision nette de près et floue de loin, toucherait, d’après la revue scientifique australienne Ophtalmology, près de 4.8 milliards de personnes à travers le monde en 2050, soit environ 50 % de la population mondiale.

Le développement de ce défaut de la vision serait principalement dû à notre mode de vie qui repose sur une utilisation excessive des appareils connectés principalement les ordinateurs, les tablettes et les smartphones, ainsi que sur une exposition limitée à la lumière naturelle. En effet, cette dernière sollicite plus la vision de loin et demande donc moins d’effort d’accommodation, d’autant plus qu’elle permet de protéger les yeux des méfaits de la lumière artificielle tout en favorisant la sécrétion de dopamine. Chose qui empêche la croissance excessive de l’œil, diminuant ainsi le risque de développement d’une myopie.

C’est pourquoi, plusieurs scientifiques préconisent de pratiquer plus d’activités extérieures, à la lumière naturelle, et de minimiser autant que possible, l’utilisation d’ordinateurs, de tablettes et d’autres gadgets connectés.

Notons que lorsque la myopie est sévère, elle peut entraîner des complications oculaires assez graves à l’instar du décollement de la rétine, de la cataracte, etc.
